This quilt was very difficult to make. It's called Caribbean Sunset and was made for my brother-in-law Michael. He was diagnosed with liver cancer and I made this as a hug since I lived so far away. It got its name because shortly after being diagnosed, my sister and he were able to take a cruise in the Caribbean and turned out to be his last vacation.
When I mailed it to him, I enclosed a note that I was hugging him from afar but that I also wanted something for my sister that had a part of him that would comfort her when he was gone.
He died June 15, 2005. My sister now uses this quilt as a hug from him. We miss him very much and he was not part of our family nearly long enough.

Kathy - I never publicly posted about this quilt before, but I wanted to let you know that even after all these years, I get a hug from Michael every single day from this quilt.
It brightened his last days, and I would talk to him about our cruise and the colors in the quilt, and read him your card several times. The kind words, as well as the quilt, warmed him during those last few weeks, and stopped his shivering when he took his last breath and said goodbye.
Now it warms me on cold winter nights, and the grandchildren that he never met love to wrap themselves in it and hear stories about Grandpa Mike. The colors are simultaneously warm, calm, bright and cheerful, as you said in your card - the colors you saw in Mike.
It is one of my most precious possessions, and I hope that you feel the love and hugs coming back to you every time it gives another one.
All my love and thanks,
Kelly
